Megan and Mike Shaw have been at The Inn with the Well (formerly The Old Crown) since 1991 and warmly welcome you to their tranquil retreat (no Pool tables or Jukeboxes or Gaming machines) in the heart of the rolling Marlborough Downs.

The Inn with the Well gets its name from the original well set in the restaurant floor. Bullet proof glass has been used to provide a safe cover for the well, allowing you to stand on top and look down inside this original feature. Have a look at our summer menu here. The Inn with the Well is a traditional coaching Inn (established in 1647) and is set in the midst of the rolling Marlborough Downs on the Ridgeway path – Europe’s oldest highway. The Inn is just 5 minutes from Junction 15 of the M4 Motorway and 2 golf courses are within a 5 minute drive and we can arrange a round for you if you let us have 2 weeks notice.

Whilst still a village local (Darts and Crib teams still operate here) we cater for guests far and wide. The Inn is known for its good food and with our 6 high quality rooms (4 of which are on the ground floor) you can eat, drink and sleep at the Inn.

You may eat in the cosy Well Dining Room or in the Bar – where Classical music is played at Lunchtime. An eclectic menu choice is available and is overseen by the Executive Chef & Co-owner Megan Shaw (trained at Leith’s).

Wine is also an area where many guests come back, as our policy is to have a limited wine list supplemented by 6 – 10 guest wines at any one time – the bottles are brought to your table for selection.

As a traditional Inn, Beer or Real Ale is a focal point for many visitors. 6X (made in nearby Devizes) and guest beers are always poured straight from the barrel in the cooled cellar. Guest beers are sourced from local Micro or Regional brewers.

We welcome well behaved Children and Dogs on leads.
