AAADD- KNOW THE SYMPTOMS......

Thank goodness there's a name for this disorder. Somehow I feel better, even though I have it!!

Recently, a friend of mine was diagnosed with A.A.A.D..D. -

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
This is how it manifests itself:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I head towards the garage, I notice post on the porch table that I picked up from the postman earlier.

I decide to go through it before I wash the car.

I put my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the recycling box under the table, and notice that the recycling box is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the recycling first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the postbox when I take out the recycling paper anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my cheque book off the table and notice that there is only one cheque left.

My extra cheques are in the desk in my study, so I go into the house to my desk where I find the cup of coffee I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my cheques but first I need to push the coffee aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The coffee is getting cold, and I decide to make another cup..

As I head toward the kitchen with the cold coffee, a vase of flowers on the worktop catches my eye - the flowers need water.

I put the coffee on the worktop and discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers..

I put the glasses back down on the worktop, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote control. Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realise that tonight when we go to watch TV, I’ll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I put the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

The car isn't washed

The bills aren't paid

There is a cold cup of coffee sitting on the kitchen work-surface

The flowers don't have enough water,

There is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book,

I can't find the remote,

I can't find my glasses,

And I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all bloody day and I'm really tired..

I realise this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.....

Do me a favour. Forward this message to everyone you know, Because I can't remember who the hell I've sent it to.

Don't laugh - if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!!

End of Term report

<itunes:author>Mike Shaw</itunes:author>

From Jan & Gerry YOUR DUCK IS DEAD............ ????

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.
After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has passed away."
The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the vet..
"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean you haven't done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room. He returned a few minutes later with a Labrador Retriever.
As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck's ass. He then looked up at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.
The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out of the room. A few minutes later he returned with a cat.
The cat jumped on the table and also delicately sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "£150!" she cried, "£150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my word for it, the bill would have been £20, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now £150." It’s been a long time since I last contacted you about life at the Inn We enjoyed our Sundays’ off- went and saw a few other pub restaurants, went to London Irish for rugby, met Lauren’s boyfriend family, 1/2 marathon in Cardiff, went to see Natalie in Plymouth and invited some people over for supper. Thank you for the support over the Christmas, sorry we didn’t fulfil the darts, golf and throwing the paperclip (maybe a summer activities). Kevin excelled with the music quiz. I enjoyed New Years eve thanks for contributing to the food. The Big breakfast was well attended and I was glad when it was finished . The caravan (Lauren’s palace) is now in place and lived in. To all the doubters- why wouldn’t it fit in. Great job by the A team . I am sorry to have to pull the beer promotion, but Keystone seem not to realise that we were promoting their beer and wanted to deliver not when we needed it. During the Xmas period we rang 3 breweries, no one answered the phone. Things to come Rugby 6 nations will be shown on the big screen , if you want to add a bit of spice, come and spend £5.00 on the 6 nations competition. Valentines dinner will be on Thursday 14th for true romantics and on Saturday 16th of February. Mothering Sunday is on 10th of March. Bread competition on Monday 1st of April. Price increase on 1st March. I am thinking of doing a Charity Summer ball- we always support Prospect, what other charity should we support, let me know if you have any views. Love and peace Mike

November blog

<itunes:author>Mike Shaw</itunes:author>

When we first arrived we had a good drinking crew in on Sunday, now it has dwindled to 2 or 3.

Michaela has now left the building- gone to work at the Royal Oak in Marlborough. She has been with us for 5 years, and has worked in all departments – we wish her luck.

Quote from our recent unannounced hotel inspection “The dishes were attractively presented in white contemporary china showing off the colour of the food” the inspector went onto say how the food was, finally noting “All credit to Ali for providing a very well executed and presented meal”
The whole of the inspection of the rooms and hospitality is in the same vein!

The end of December saw the 2011 Inn with the Well singles Darts Tournament. After hours of multi-board action Pat Mason emerged triumphant and added his name to the long and distinguished list of previous winners (all three of them)! The crowd’s favourite, however, was surely Phil who fought back from a first round defeat to claim the plate tournament (guess who wrote this???)! All eyes now turn back to our on-going dart’s ladder.

Darts & Music Quiz

During the month of December we had our Darts Quiz, with Donzil and Andy Harrop claiming Bully’s Star Prize of a bottle of fine port each! A shout out must also go to Alastair who won himself an extra small Inn with the Well shirt and a chocolate bar! The same month saw the our fantastic music quiz, which was brilliantly organised by Mr Kevin Akers. The team of Richard Thomas, Tom Hepple, Anna Hepple & Jenny Hepple came out on top (mainly due to Tom’s infinite knowledge of 1990’s dance music!). A big thank-you to all who participated in these events because together they saw us raise a terrific £181.37 for Prospect!

Christmas Day

Great to see so many faces at the bar for a Christmas drink. Thanks to al the guest who partook of Xmas lunch. New Years Eve Angie and Andrew played out 2011 in style and for a change we had Auld Lang Syne sung properly and got midnight on the dot! Thanks to all who came in the spirit and dressed accordingly.

The big breakfast

Tough session for the chef but a nice end to the winter festivities.

6X Promotion

This winter witnessed 6X fever grip Ogbourne St George with our 6 x 6X promotion with a weekend trip to the New Forest up for grabs. The winner was decided on New Year’s eve as Dave Brooks (an out-of-towner!!!) claimed the prize. Well done Dave!

Bar Top/Cellar/Room Floor/Toilet Refurbished

All the jobs that needed doing were done, thanks to Big Phil and Andy the pony tail, or setting up the bar and getting rid of the dust.

Cask Marque

We recently had our regular Cask Marque check and as usual received a 100% certification.

Pig Racing Friday

7th February 8.00’ish. Be there for fun and frolics. The guy who runs it is very amusing.

Bistro Menus

To celebrate Valentine’s Day this year we have a special package offer and several one-off menus on the weekend of the 10th & 11th of February. Details of these deals are attached to this e-mail, however accommodation and tables must be booked soon due expected high numbers.

Mr & Mrs Quiz

Friday 10th February also sees our Valentine’s Mr & Mrs quiz. So come along and put your relationship to the test and see if you are destined soul-mates or should just be mates. £5 entry per couple, proceeds will go to help for heroes and Prospect.

Rugby Fixtures

Show your true colours this February and March when the 2012 RBS 6 Nations Tournament gets underway. Almost every game (the one exception being the France vs Ireland game on Saturday 11th February) will be screened on The Inn’s big screen! Click on the following link to see the full fixture list for this year’s tournament - http://www.rbs6nations.com/en/matchcentre/match-centre_fixtures-results.php. This tournament will also see the return of our book on the various statistics of the tournament, see Phil to place your bets (£5 per person for 5 categories).

OAP Menu/Double Discount

Our Thursday lunchtime Senior’s Special has changed slightly in 2012. Instead of a set menu and price, senior citizens with a loyalty card, (available at the bar, please ask) will now receive a 20% discount on all items on our regular menu.

Donzil’s Birthday

The countdown to the event of the year has begun! No not the Olympics or the Jubilee but Donzil Cook’s 50th Birthday party! If you are lucky enough, expect invitations soon.

Christmas & beyond

<itunes:author>Mike Shaw</itunes:author>

Hello,
What’s happened
Edinburgh
We went to Edinburgh to watch Scotland versus Wales- an atrocious display of rugby by both teams, just that Wales were slightly less worse.
The bear enjoyed himself as did we se him in the photo with the invisible man. Thank you to Jane for running the Inn in our absence- good job.
Sausage making
The ladies went to make sausages at Jesse Smiths in Marlborough. Apparently all the ladies produced recipes that the butcher had never seen before- Marmite with rosemary and prunes, Mango chutney, garlic and chilli etc. See photo.
Book club
It was nice to see the book club in the Inn recently.
Terminator
Pete (who lives at Chris Clarkes old house) and I took part in the Pewsey Terminator - times immaterial- but as you can see from the photo it was really dirty?
Crib team
Currently 2nd in the league, despite a loss of 1-8 recently.
What’s next
Poker
Next “eyes down” is Friday 11th – Graham is away, so who can take the money?
Egg draw
The draw for the Egg will take place on Sunday 12th at 2.45 just before we show the Calcutta cup (England versus Scotland). The 6 nation burger will be beef burger topped with haggis with chips at £6.95 or £8.95 with a pint of guest beer or medium glass of house wine.
Red nose day Friday 18th March
Quiz about cockney and Australian rhyming slang - a silent quiz! Red cocktails will be on offer and the big screen will be in operation. Due to its close proximity with St. Patricks day we will be offering Guinness at 3.00 per pint, 50 pence going to comic relief. Prize for best fancy dress- Child and Adult
Mothers Day
Bookings now being taken for Sunday 3rd of April.
Beer Festival and inaugural Oggy 8 run
Easter and St. Georges day coincide on Saturday 23rd of April.
Beer festival will start on Good Friday 22nd April and will run until after the Royal wedding Fri 29th. (anyone doing anything for the Royal wedding?)
Sunday 24th Oggy 8 run, time and route to be finalised - open to runners, walkers and dog walkers. Angie will be singing in the afternoon and we will be finishing with a BBQ in the evening 6.30 to 8.30 p.m.
Smoking area
I have asked Glenn to produce an awning for the front of the Inn so the smokers can at least keep the rain off when they smoke.
Rugby
We will be showing the last few games. Who will win the aggregate points competition?
New menu
Will be available from 1st of April.
Sunday evenings
We will opening Sunday evenings for food and drink from 11th of April until Sunday 28th of August.

Photo with Donzal showing him leaving before closing time! is this a first?
